Volunteer with NLA

 

NLA relies on a volunteer staff of LEAD Team Mentors who work closely with a dedicated group of 10 students, as well as assists with various operational duties throughout the 4-day Academy. The staff will interact with and support the students on a deeply personal level as they guide them through their experience over the course of the Academy.

The dates for the 2024 National Leadership Academy in Denver, CO are: June 12-15.
All staff are expected to be on-site at the conference location for the entire academy. Accommodations & meals are provided.

Staff Responsibilities Include:

  • Participate in 3 online trainings April/May/June

  • Attend the Pre-Academy Staff dinner on the evening before NLA

  • Arrive at the conference site by 8am on Wednesday, June 12th

  • Assist where needed with set-up and check-in

  • Develop relationships with the students in your LEAD Team

  • Guide discussion during LEAD Team breakout sessions

  • Model appropriate behavior throughout the Academy, and especially during speaker sessions, workshops, service projects, off-site activities, and meals

  • Provide supervision and insure all students in your group are accounted for at all times

  • Participate alongside the students at the assigned service project site

  • Other duties as assigned (including setting up rooms, meal prep, cleanup, & bed checks)

Helpful Skills/Interests:

  • Previous experience working with youth

  • A heart and passion for youth leadership development

  • High energy

  • Willingness to demonstrate Heart-Led Leadership

  • Awareness of factors impacting the lives of underserved youth

  • An interest and passion for empowering youth to make a positive impact in their schools, communities, and the world.
